Dinners for the week, planned to your budget.
Tell Subtotal who's eating, what to avoid and what you can spend. It plans the week, writes the shopping list, and keeps your total as you scan shelf prices in the store.
The week below, as it looks in the app.
Set it up once. Shop it every week.
You answer four questions. Subtotal does the planning.
Tell it about your week
Who's eating, the foods to avoid, how you usually eat (which meals, which days, leftovers for lunch) and a weekly budget.
Get the week and the list
Meals planned in about a second. Each item on the list says how much to buy, what the meals use and on which days.
Scan as you shop
Point the camera at a shelf ticket. The price goes in, the item crosses off, and your total stays in view.

The shopping list
Planned by Subtotal's meal engine on 5 October 2026 for one adult who has last night's dinner for lunch. Prices are the engine's US default estimates; once you scan, it plans with your store's prices. Your week depends on what you eat, avoid and spend.
What makes it different
Each of these is something you can check for yourself.
It plans with your prices
Every shelf ticket you scan becomes the price the planner uses next week, at the store you shop at.
Check: scan one item, then plan again. It uses up what you buy
Ingredients carry across the week. In the week above, the chopped tomatoes are used on 5 days and the cabbage on 2.
Check: each list item names its days. There's nothing to switch off

What does it cost?
Three shops are free, and you can see the dinners your list already makes. One purchase unlocks planning for as many weeks as you like. There's no subscription.
Does it work where I live?
It plans in your currency and units, and learns your store's prices as you scan. The shelf-ticket scanner is tested on New Zealand tickets from Pak'nSave, New World and Woolworths, and on US Walmart and Kroger tickets. You can always type a price in.
Can I bring my recipes from Mealime or a website?
No. Subtotal plans the meals for you rather than storing recipes. You can swap any meal, skip a dish or ask for a different week.
How does it handle allergies?
Tell it what you avoid and it leaves out foods that typically contain it. Recipes vary by brand and country, so check labels too. Subtotal gives general guidance, not medical or dietary advice.
Is there an Android or web version?
Not yet. Subtotal is for iPhone, iOS 17 or later.
What happens to my data?
It stays on your iPhone. Subtotal has no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and sends nothing to us.
Plan next week's dinners in a minute.
Subtotal arrives on the App Store in October.
